DEB Diploma Day.

“Whatever it is you’re seeking won’t come in the form you’re expecting.”

Together with a group of DEB students, I was the organizing chairman of the Diploma in Engineering with Business (DEB) Diploma Day 2016 despite only being a Year 1. The event was held on the 2nd November 2016 and aims to bring together DEB students and alumni to celebrate and refresh our identity as part of the DEB family. Both students and their tutors participated in three fun-filled games namely 31 dishes, jumping booth and charades at the Singapore Polytechnic Convention Center (SPCC). The activites were facilitated by student volunteers from the Diploma in Aerospace Electronics (DASE) and Diploma in Electrical and Electronic Engineering (DEEE).

With the help of Mr Danny Lee, we also were able to invite 4 DEB alumni, Mr Nigel Lo, Mr Jovan Tan, Ms Jolyn Tey and Mr Gary Teo to share with the current DEB students their thoughts while inspiring and motivating them with various possibilities after graduation from Singapore Polytechnic. Mr Gary Teo, who is an entrepreneur himself, sponsored 150 bottles of herbal drinks for the event.

Through the planning of the event, I was able to interact with a few of my seniors and cohort mates and got to know them better during the brainstorming of games and logistics planning. It was definitely an enriching experience planning for such a large scale event that involved everyone in my course and taught me more about events management and planning. Of course, all of it would not have been possible without Mr Danny Lee, who provided me with the opportunity to lead the planning of this event and also gave us his advice and guidance throughout the process.
